Vision Distribution’s The Eight Mountains is competing in Cannes

Written and directed by Belgian filmmakers Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, The Eight Mountains [+] is one of the biggest titles to be put forth by Vision Distribution at the 75th Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film. This will be the first time that the Italian production, distribution and sales agency founded in 2017 has managed the rights to a feature film competing in the festival’s Official Selection. This adaptation of Paolo Cognetti’s best-selling novel of the same name, offered up by the director who previously gave us The Broken Circle Breakdown [+] and Beautiful Boy working in tandem with his partner, is a European co-production involving four countries: Italy, Belgium, France and the UK, via Wildside, Rufus, Menuetto, Pyramide Productions and Vision Distribution, in collaboration with Elastic and Sky. Luca Marinelli and Alessandro Borghi topline the film, joining forces once again following the success of Don’t Be Bad [+], and supported by Filippo Timi, Elena Lietti and Elisabetta Mazzullo. The film has already secured distributors in Italy (Vision Distribution), Belgium (Kinepolis Film Distribution), France (Pyramide Distribution), the Netherlands (Dutch Filmworks) and in Germany-Austria-Switzerland (DCM).

The rich film slate offered up by the firm overseen by Catia Rossi comprises films which have already been distributed in Italy and others still in post-production, some of which are eagerly awaited, namely Siccità by Paolo Virzì (Human Capital [+], Like Crazy [+], Ella & John – The Leisure Seeker [+]), starring Monica Bellucci and produced by Wildside and Vision Distribution; the “metropolitan western” Brado by Kim Rossi Stuart (Palomar and Vision), who is once again shooting and starring in a film following 2016’s Tommaso [+] (screened out of competition in Venice); the thriller Io sono l’abisso, which Donato Carrisi has adapted from his own novel of the same name, following the global success of Into the Labyrinth [+]; Tu choisiras la vie (Indiana Production together with Vision), which is the first feature film helmed by French actor Stéphane Freiss (The Confessions [+]), who directs Lou De Laâge and Riccardo Scamarcio to tell the story of an ultra-orthodox Jewish family from Aix-les-Bains who travel to a Calabrian farm each year to fulfil the sacred mission of harvesting limes; Orlando (Rosamont, Tarantula Belgique and RAI Cinema) by Daniele Vicari (The Day and the Night [+]) and starring Michele Placido, Angelica Kazankova and Fabrizio Rongione in a re-enactment of a modern fairy-tale; and, last but not least, Notte fantasma, the third feature film by Fulvio Risuleo (The Dog Snatch [+]) which is a thriller produced by Elsinore, Wildside and Vision.

The premieres offered up by Vision in Cannes include Giovanni Troilo’s documentary Power of Rome [+], in which actor and director Edoardo Leo explores Rome with fresh eyes, discovering the legacy of the city’s empire: the West. (IIF – Lucisano Media Group, Sky, Vision); the thriller Crystal Girl [+] by newcomer Domenico Croce (Fidelio and Vison); the dramedy La Cena perfetta [+] by Davide Minnella, a successful, feelgood mix of haute cuisine and crime (IIF and Vision); and Alessio Maria Federici’s comedy (Im)perfetti criminali (Cinemaundici and Vision).

Riccardo Milani’s comedy Corro da te [+] and Chiara Bellosi’s teen drama Swing Ride [+] – which was previously selected for the Berlinale’s Panorama section – complete the agent’s line-up.
